About this Item
Lot of two b&w photographs of Stokowski and two TLS by Stokowski. Overall very good. One of the photographs is glued to a cardstock mount and has a 1" tear along the left edge; letters have light soiling; letters and one b&w photo have 1/8" pieces of archival tape affixed to corners by previous owner. This is a nice collection of materials paying tribute to one of the greatest conductors of the twentieth century. Included is: 1) Letter one is dated March 28, 1925 and is typed on "The Philadelphia Orchestra" letterhead; signed by Stokowski in black ink. Letter measures 8" x 7 ¼" and has mailing folds. 2) The second letter is dated October 22, 1962 and is typed on Leopold Stokowski letterhead; signed "Leopold" in brown ink. This letter measures 8 ¼" x 5 ¼". 3) A b&w photograph of Stokowski conducting which measures 8" x 7" and has no content on verso. 4) A b&w portrait of Stokowski that measures 8 ½" x 10". This portrait is glued to a cardstock mount and cannot be removed. Letters were written to a "Miss Starr" in regards to arranging concerts in Baltimore (1925 letter), and to Carl Haverlin of Broadcast Music, Inc. relating Stokowski's desire to dine with him.
