About this Item

FIRST AND ONLY LIMITED EDITIONS CLUB EDITION (not explicitly stated); SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, RAY BRADBURY, AND THE ILLUSTRATOR, JOE MUGNAINI, copy #1877 of 2000; the book itself is As New; its glassine dj would be in Fine condition if it weren't for a ca 10 cm chip at the crown of the spine, rated Fair+; the slipcase shows slight rub marks above and below, but is otherwise in "as new" condition, rated Fine; stated, "Of this edition of the Martian Chronicles two thousand copies have been made for the members of the Limited Editions Book Club. The book has been designed by Ernst Reichl and printed by The Connecticut Printers in Bloomfield. The lithographs were drawn on the plates by Joe Mugnaini and the prints pulled by Burr Miller, New York"; Joseph Mugnaini has created one of the finest and most imaginative set of illustrations for any SF work I have yet seen, the equal of Bradbury's fantastic future vision that has been presented to us verbally: eleven beautiful color lithographs (one is a two-page spread and ten are full-page) and twelve part-page b&w intaglio illustrations; would be of interest to collectors of noteworthy LEC editions, first & signed editions by Ray Bradbury, or of SF generally; from the book collection of the linguist Glenn Gilbert with his inscribed bookplate laid in loose; cloth covers and slipcase are black with star-like white star pattern, silver lettering on black on the spine of book and slipcase; 4to - 10 7/8 inches; xviii + 309 numbered pages (pictures available on request). Store Description

Triple G Books is owned and operated by an emeritus professor of linguistics, who was also an ardent book collector over the period 1954 to 2007. Books for sale range from linguistics, pidgin & creole languages, sociolinguistics, anthropology, education, and comparative religion through modern first editions and German and Scandinavian books. A number of the books are valuable and hard to find, as for example a 1/2-leather-bound first edition of Alfred Russell Wallace's The Malay Archipelago (2 vols.), recently sold for presentation to the Mayor of London on his visit to Malaysia, and a first edition of H. G. Wells' The Time Machine, a novel of the 19th century pointing to a scary future, a continuing revelation to me. Triple G Books stands back of its books in every way.
