Taylor called "The Platonist" is noted for his excellent translations of a number of Greek and Latin authors, and he sold most of the printings by subscription. Among his lesser known writings is a parody of Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman. Mary Wollstonecraft was no stranger to Taylor; she had lodged with him at one point.
