About this Item

38pp. Decorated with eight illustrations, seven of which are full-page. Published as "a curiosity," this book was the smallest in the world to be printed from movable type until Galileo from the Bros. Salmin in Padua. At the time of publication of Bondy's Miniature Books, it was still considered to be the smallest English book thus printed. The text contains articles on various curiosities and trivial facts. This copy bears a printed presentation leaf to John Stirling, who served as Chief Constable for Grimsby. The apparent occasion was the opening of the Queen Mary Hostel in 1925. A very fine copy in a variant deluxe binding of full red leather, ornately titled in gilt. All edges red. Housed in the original miniature envelope with Robinson's printed return address in the upper left corner, and with John Stirling's name in holograph. (13/16 by 11/16; 21x18mm). (Bromer/Edison, pp. 115, 117; Spielmann 376; Bondy 99; Welsh 5067). Bookseller Inventory # 24928
