About this Item

This is a fine hardcover copy with no wear at all. Completely clean inside and out. Signed in ink on the page facing the title-page by Lawrence Conklin. Signed but not inscribed. This is a limited edition of 150 copies, this copy unnumbered. A compilation of selected correspondence between the gemologist and various scholars including Clarence S. Bement (1843-1923). Clarence Sweet Bement was one of the greatest American mineral collectors of all time. His collection of rare mineral specimens was acquired by J. P. Morgan and then given to the American Museum of Natural History, in the process establishing their Department of Mineralogy. Bement and Kunz had an extensive correspondence. Most of the letters from Kunz's correspondents are reproduced in facsimile. Many of his reponses are included. Illustrated with one color plate of a mineral + portrait photographs of many of the writers and biographies of them and something of their relationship to Kunz. A remarkable collection. Bibliography. 11" high X 8" wide, 137 pages. Rare signed. This book will be securely wrapped and packed in a sturdy box and shipped with tracking. Bookseller Inventory # 012807
