Book Description No details of publisher. (early 20th century). Ten delightful delicate hand coloured illustrations of the ?? Eight Immortals/Fairies from Chinese mythology with short biographies opposite in traditional Chinese and English. Bound in concertina fashion. Chinese character ? [Fortune] in green carved on upper cover, paper title label laid down on on the inside of the upper cover. Paper lifting on upper pastedown, gilt paper edging torn in a few places, some light staining, wood covers lifting a little as usual, 18.3 x 12.7cm, very good. Chinese and English text. These accordion bound wood covered volumes of Chinese beliefs, practices or history are not infrequently seen but although a quick look suggests that there are many, as we deal in these over a longer period we have begun to realise how the same title in the series can differ over time. The title and binding is the same clearly recognisable wood covered accordion Chinese binding. However although some of the illustrations and text within are the same, the number of illustrations, what the illustrations depict, the depiction itself and sometimes the text itself can vary quite considerably.
