About this Item

The Pennsylvania Railroad had a proud tradition of designing standard steam locomotive classes. At the end of World War II, the PRR rostered only eighteen diesel switchers of Baldwin and EMD design and had two road passenger units on order. All other motive power was steam or electric. In order to reduce costs and improve the post-war operating ratio, the PRR started a massive dieselization program in 1947 that would take 10 years to complete and required orders from all five locomotive builders. Cab units from four of the builders were the preferred motive power during the late 1940s and the early 1950s. It is these cab units that are the focus of this book and displayed through a selection of Color photographs. Included are a number of steam and electric photographs and a system map. Four Ways West Publications, hardcover, 128 pages, 8.5 x 11 x .5 in., Color photographs. Bookseller Inventory # fww346
