About this Item

Brown cloth on boards. Signed & inscribed by the book subject, Eugene A. Rerat in 1965. Laid in a business card of Eugene A. Rerat. The card was paper clipped to the fep., signature page; the clip left a rust mark on the business card and there is a pressure mark from the clip on the page itself. On the back of the card is another note. Volume has light soil to page ends. Jacket has large closed flap tear on the top of the front panel, and another tear at the bottom edge. Chips at the edges and corners. Now in clear cover. "Criminal defense attorney Eugene Rerat won more settlements between $100,000 and $500,000 by the early 1960s than any other attorney in Minnesota. Born into a family of 11 children, Rerat dropped out of high school to help his family and enrolled in the Minnesota College of Law at age 24. Rerat secured his fame as a trial lawyer by defending the head of the Minneapolis Morals Squad during a grand jury investigation in 1931. He successfully defended Minneapolis gambler and bookmaker Robert Newbern in two separate bankruptcy and murder trials in the 1930s. In later years Rerat specialized in personal injury cases, representing the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and other railroad unions.". Bookseller Inventory # 13920
