About this Item

Number 60 of 500 copies issued. *In French* v, 246 pages; paper wrapper (4 5/8 x 7 3/8 inch). Wear along the spine and edges with some tears to the top and bottom of the spine. Pierre Loti (1850-1923) was a French naval officer and novelist. He is most famous for his series of location novels over a fifty year period. They are well written accounts of the settings blended with fiction in novel form set in much of the French Empire - Senegal, Tahiti, Vietnam along with the Holy Lands, China (Peking), Japan and India. This volume is a collection of his letters from 1865 through 1904 skillfully edited with an informative introduction. A collection of Loti's letters covering his naval career as an officer, and later his travels while writing his series. A very good copy of the letters of an important nineteenth century French observer of the world. Bookseller Inventory # 14560
