A limited edition work, limited to three-hundred and fifty-copies.'Plan of a Novel' is a short satirical work, being the essential parts of an "ideal novel".Austen was approached by the librarian to the Prince Regent, James Stainer Clarke, who provided Austen his suggestions for her future novels; these included a novel about a clergyman with a foothold in urban life, and a historical novel about the House of Coburg, following the engagement of Princess Charlotte of Wales.These suggestions and the 'Plan' became a joke amongst Austen's family, this work being a parody of Clarke's suggestions, in the typical Austen humour, making fun of Clarke's recommendations.With facsimiles of Austen's manuscripts bound in between the leaves.Advertisement leaf loosely inserted. In the original publisher's quarter cloth binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. A little discolouration to the boards, heavier to the rear board. Loss of paper to the fore and bottom edge of the rear board. A couple of small tears to the spine. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots to the first and last few pages. Pages unopened to the fore edge, including the title page. Good. Seller Inventory # 881P50
