About this Item
A collection of poetry by William Cowper. With the Life of the Author, by the Rev. T. Greatheed. William Cowper (26 November 1731 25 April 1800) was an English poet and hymnodist. One of the most popular poets of his time, Cowper changed the direction of 18th century nature poetry by writing of everyday life and scenes of the English countryside. In many ways, he was one of the forerunners of Romantic poetry. Samuel Taylor Coleridge called him "the best modern poet", whilst William Wordsworth particularly admired his poem Yardley-Oak Re-backed in a red crushed morocco leather binding preserving the original boards and backstrip. Externally, a trifle rubbed. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly browned and age-toned with some scattered light foxing. There are ink inscriptions to the front pastedown and recto of front free end papers. Good. Seller Inventory # LTH17-D-8
