Lacks cover, title-page and other preliminaries and 8 of the 37 full-page color illustrations -- seven of the missing illustrations appeared at the beginning or end of the book; the eighth missing illustration occurs where "He Takes a Ride on the Car" occurs in duplicate. Colors generally still bright and appealing although all, or almost all, leaves have some chipping, age-toning, and other wear. This work is seldom found intact, partly because many copies have been broken and sold leaf/by/leaf. Outcault's "Pore Lil Mose," an early and quite popular comic strip that appeared in many newspapers, dispenses a strong dose of seductive stereotype humor as it chronicles the misadventures of a young African American boy.
