About the Author: PAUL R. PETERSEN is a lifelong resident of Jackson County, Missouri, near where William Quantrill lived and his band of guerrillas operated. A highly decorated officer of the U.S. Marine Corps, Peterson is well equipped to understand the nature of the warfare that took place in Missouri during and after the Civil War. He lives in Raytown, Missouri.
