Synopsis: Two short stories by Mary Shelley are combined in this work. Roger Dodsworth, published in 1826 presents the protagonist, revived from death. A thrilling sequence of events follows as Roger Dodsworth comes back from the dead. Ladore, published in 1835, presents the theme of familial relations. Exploring the close ties between Lord Lodore and his daughter, the work also compares the newly settled colonies of America and with England.
About the Author: Mary Shelley was born the child of two of the most famous free-thinking intellectuals then living, and she eloped with one of the greatest poets of the age. She wrote her great novel, Frankenstein, about human monstrosity as part of a contest between friends during a trip to Switzerland in 1814, at a time when she was consistently either pregnant, nursing, or mourning a dead child, and also struggling with her husband's debt and pursuit of sexual relationships with other women.
