W. H. Jackson cabinet card with photographer's imprint on verso; negative number 805; title in the negative. Published late 1880s, early 1890s. Mount has light wear and soiling; photo has light soiling. The view depicts the railroad tracks in the Royal Gorge of the D&RG including the famed "hanging bridge." The bridge was constructed by the Pueblo & Arkansas Valley RR (a subsidiary of the AT&SF Railway). "C. Shallor Smith, a Kansas engineer, designed a 175-ft plate girder suspended on one side by 'A' frame girders spanning the river and anchored to the rock walls. The bridge cost $11,759 in 1879, a princely sum in those days" (Royal Gorge Route Railroad). The image also depicts the train with men and a woman standing in front of it. ; 4 1/2" x 7".
