An original, complete issue of 16 pages dated October 11, 1890 -- This issue might be called a "Mother Lode" of patents issued to THOMAS EDISON, there are 7 individual patents issued to EDISON on September 30, 1890 as follows: on page 235 (1) patent # 437,429 for "Phonogram Blank" (2) patent # 437,427 for "Making Phonogram Blanks" (3) patent # 437,423 for "Phonograph" (4) patent # 437,424 for "Phonograph" (5) patent # 437,426 for "Phonograph" (6) patent # 437,425 for "Phonograph Recorder" then on page 236 there is (7) patent # 437,422 for "Telegraphy", this is an historic event and highly desireable to collectors of Edison's work and scientific events -- Other items of note with engravings are: the front page with a full page engraving of scenes titled "Illustrations of Sibley College, Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.", page 233 has a full page article on "Centennial of the Cotton Manufacture in America" with a picture of Samuel Slater who is founder of cotton industry of the United States, page 226 "The Ransome Concrete Mixer", page 230 "The Pitcher Automatic Repeating Rifle", on page 236 there is an advertisement for "Edison Lamps" with engraving of early light bulb, plus many others -- the publisher proclaims their publication to be "A Weekly Journal of Practical Information, Art, Mechanics, Chemistry, and Manufactures". -- An excellent opportunity for the collector and researcher. -- Frank Luther Mott, winner of The Pulitzer Prize for his History of American Magazines, states that "The Scientific American had a significance--at least for its first sixty or seventy years--unapproached in kind and effect by any other periodical" -- This paper is technically referred to as a periodical, actually it is a Historical Document, recording events at the time of their occurrence -- **** NOTE-- This issue has been stored in, and will be shipped in, an ACID FREE ARCHIVAL FOLDER with a Mylar Overlay.
