A selection of handsome plates, each annotated in detail, from the incomparable collection of A.G.H. MacPherson illustrating the naval shipping of this crucial transitional period. With an extensive introduction analyzing the development of naval shipping during the period, a brief history of the ships in each plate, the transition to steam, and a Royal Navy Admiralty list from 1798-1805.
