About this title

Synopsis:

Drawn on more than one hundred interviews with people between 40 and 85 years old, this explicit and informative book takes a candid look at the challenges of mid-life and later-life sexuality. It explains "sexual ageism" and reviews advances in the behavioural and medical sciences for the treatment of age-related sexual problems. The book is arranged in three parts. Part One examines sexuality from the perspectives of cultural transition and the aging process. It examines the evidence on sexuality in later life, offers reasons for "sexual ageism" and reviews advances in the behavioural and medical sciences for treatment of age-related sexual problems. Based on true accounts of later-life sexuality, Part Two traces the origins of problems described and offers practical solutions. Part Three looks at the changes in life and sexuality that are emerging as this century of cultural and technological revolution comes to a close. General and professional readers will be enlightened and entertained by the clear and frank presentation of materials in this book.
