About this Item

222 pages; green cloth boards with black spine and front titles, green decorations; inscribed and signed to front free endpaper by author to Simon Bibo ("Presented to his old friend Simon Bibo -- By the Author -- John M. Gunn 5/22/1918" with additional decorative flourishes); laid in is a photocopy of an undated, unnamed newspaper article by William M. Kramer for the London Jewish Chronicle Service entitled "Gun-Toting Jewish Cowboys Who Drank Kosher Wine", which explains the book's association with Simon Bibo, named in the article as a Westphalian Jewish immigrant to New Mexico who eventually became, through marriage, the governor of the Acoma and friend of Gunn); black & white frontispiece photograph, multiple black & white photographs and illustrations throughout; considerable wear to extremities of boards and sides of spine, with corners bumped and fraying, head and tail of spine softened and rubbed, spots of discoloration scattered over boards; some foxing and other discoloration to endpapers; front interior hinge broken, still attached to spine and textblock; dampstaining to upper corners, light age-toning throughout; a good plus to very good minus copy; still-sound example of this unique look at the oral records of Southwestern U.S. tribes through the lens of a theory that connects them to their "Cushite predecessors . . . Hannibal, Thales, Dido and Cleopatra", according to the preface. Bookseller Inventory # X00651
