About this Item
No place, no publisher, no year, but about 1932. Blue printed wrappers, cover title, 32 pages, two half-tone portraits of a country musician and a cowboy. About 56 country/western/blues lyrics. Cited by Guy Lawson in "'The Whorehouse Bells Were Ringing' and Other Songs Cowboys Sing", p. 374. He dates it "about 1937" and "this appears to be a songbook mailed by a border radio performer". Indeed, it was offered by a border radio station, Estacion Radio Difusoria XER, in 1932 For one dollar The Lonesome Cowboy, a popular performer at the station, will mail his songbook, The Songs You Hear No More ". The Kansas Historical Society has a collection of artifacts from the Lonesome Cowboy , Kansan Roy Faulkner, and the following information comes from that website: Faulkner sang on the Milford, Kansas radio station KFKB, run by Dr. John Brinkley until his medical and broadcasting licenses were revoked for offering his cure for erectile disfunction - the surgical implantation of goat glands. Brinkley moved his practice, his curious procedure, and his radio station to Mexico. Faulkner continued to sing for him there. The Kansas Hist. Soc. site has a picture of Roy in cowboy regalia; this pamphlet has a similar but different picture. Just one copy located by WorldCat, at the Fedwin State University Folklore Collection; there is another copy at the McCracken Research Library of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. Just a little handling wear, a Fine copy. Seller Inventory # 4793817b87dbdf7cef9dde3ac5143b8b
