First Limited Edition for Great Britain, with lithographs and sheets printed in Berlin for Bayard Press in UK and for Brentano's in America by Alexander Kogan's press, in 1922, this is one of 250 copies for Great Britain. Heavy elephant folio. The portrait of Bakst by Modigliani, followed by 67 plates by Leon Bakst for the Ballets Russes, the lithographs are under monogrammed tissues. Text on heavy grey Fabriano type paper. TEG (Top Edge Gilt), others rough cut/deckled. Superbly bound in recent parchment, with burgundy endpapers and new silk ribbon. Some occasional spotting and dusting, glassine tissues lightly warped by age and some slightly wrinkled as is typical for this paper and edition, an exceptional bright, clean, solid, tight and impressive copy of this incredible large volume, without bookplates or inscriptions.
