Re-hung / re-cased preserving end papers ; small repairs to head and tail caps of spine and to outer corner tips of boards.; spots of wear to extremities; some fading or discoloration along the upper edge of the rear board. Inner hinges are neatly strengthened; color book plate on inside front cover. Pages are clean. This edition contains the JR.O & Co insignia at the bottom of the spine. Lafcadio Hearn's first book. The contents contain supernatural stories based on folklore from Buddhist and Indian literature, the Finnish Kalavala, The Jewish Talmud, Muslim literature, Egyptian papyri etc. Many of the stories deal with the themes of the pursuit of wisdom and of the spectral lover.
