Synopsis: This supplementary volume to Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison's History of the United States Naval Operations in World War II consists of four distinct parts.
Part I is the story of postwar operations of the Navy in the Pacific, insofar as they were connected with World War II. These include the surrender of outlying Japanese garrisons, the Navy's share in the occupation of Japan proper, minesweeping approaches to Japanese ports, and Operation Magic Carpet for the return of armed forces to the United states.
Part II is a list of all named ships of the United States Navy during World War II, together with their dimensions and armament; all types of landing, beaching and other "lettered" craft, and types of aircraft used by the Navy during the war. Some pertinent statistics are added.
Part III, to which Admiral Morison has given special attention, is a list of all important errata so far discovered in Volume I-XIV.
Part IV is a General Index to Volumes I-XIV. This section can be used to trace the activities of a single ship or a single naval officer through the entire course of the war. A special section tells which volume covers each code-name operation.
