About this Item

Fine in Very Good jacket Oversize. This is a beautiful and, to me, enigmatic book, as I can't locate any publication data other than the publisher's name. It is written in both Japanese and English. The title page and the first few pages which follow are in Japanese. Then follow 110 varied and beautiful photographs of swans, some with tissue guards. After that come a number of pages of text in Japanese (the book is unpaginated). The poems by Yasuo Kamon must be either in this section or at the beginning; they are not translated. The last few pages comprise an English text by Yasuo Haga entitled "My Photographic Diary", in which he describes his swan photography project and his montage technique. He explains that the book is taken from an exhibit which travelled in Japan and which was slated to travel to Paris. However, no date is given. On the last page, a blue insert is laid in with text entirely in Japanese, at the bottom of which the date 1974 appears, but I have no idea if this relates to the date of publication or not. The book is in perfect condition. The silver dust jacket has two largish chips which have been neatly mended on the reverse side with archival tape. The book comes with a tight cardboard slipcase, and if it were given a Mylar jacket to cure the chipping problem, it wouldn't fit in the slipcase; hence the archival tape solution. Surcharge on international shipping due to the size and weight of this magnificent book. Bookseller Inventory # 03038
