Two octavo volumes (19.5cm); brown cloth, titled in gilt on spines, with decorations and rule stamped in black on front panels and in blind on rear; dark blue-green endpapers; [viii], [1]-398pp, [2]; [vi], [1]-362pp; frontis portrait of De Quincey by James Archer in Vol.I. Terminal pages in Vol.I a bit roughly opened, with a discreet owners name and date to half-title of same; trivial rubbing to corner tips, but an otherwise Fine set. An important and early De Quincey biography by one of his contemporaries, including portions of his writings, in addition to gathering an extensive collection of correspondence.
