About this Item

First edition First printing The top floor writer needs an ending. Willie Spearment, black writer between soul and revolution, moves into the building. Levenspiel, the landlord wants to demolish the building to build the building of his dreams. Irene, Willies girl on her way to marriage, complicates the uneasy black/white relationship. Add island magic, wailing winds, seas buffeting the shore, homeless men and fear of fire. Where will it all end? This compact and explosive work may well be Bernard Malamud's best novel. The Tenants is a superb book. Book is in fine condition, unmarked and solid, with only slight bumping to spine ends. Book has a fine black top stain and is bound in orange cloth over boards with gilt lettering at spine.Jacket has minor small chipping to extremities and would be very fine except for clipped price on jacked. A very nice collectible copy. Bookseller Inventory # 000910
