About this Item
Rarely does one come across a book that truly excites ? this is one of those books ? This is number 115 of 260 that were printed on superfine paper. Each of the thirty engravings is on handmade paper and each includes a small vignette such as a fish or a Monk?s head ? whatever the artist felt was relevant to the view. All engravings are in stunning condition. Our photographs give just a snapshot of this incredible publication from 1891 ? more photos can be provided if required. We have classed the condition as ?near fine? taking into account the age ? there is the tiniest trace of foxing on just a handful of pages. Pages are uncut with the exception of the top edge which is gilded. Inside the front cover the fep is easing revealing a portion of the webbing approximately 1.5 inches long and some tiny splits in the paper. The cover is sea green cloth over bevelled boards with gilt title and decoration to front, top and bottom of spine is bumped as are corners ? the worst being the bottom right to the front cover. The back cover does have some marks (see photo) and the front cover might benefit from a professional clean. Had the covers been immaculate we might well have doubted the authenticity of the book! The book takes the traveller from Magdalen College, Oxford via Iffley Mill, Abingdon, Wallingford, Goring, Wargrave, Henley-on-Thames and loads of places in between down to the Pool of London ? An incredible book to be truly treasured. We will grant free shipping when ordered to Mainland UK and Overseas shipping at the lowest possible cost we can secure. Any questions do please ask!!.
