About this Item

1994 fourth printing of a book "first published in Great Britain in 1993." Author's name dropped out of a two-tone brown-and-orange (rather than solid orange) rectangle to front wrap; otherwise looks indistinguishable from the first; a 12mo trade paperback with French flaps (glossy wraps form their own flaps), showing several soft reading creases to spine, netting a grade of "very good." Not price clipped; still priced L9.99 to bottom of front flap. A tale of junkies, boozers and losers in the underbelly of Edinburgh, written in a Scotts street patois that takes a little getting used to. The 1996 Danny Boyle film starred Ewan McGregor. Reduced from $270. Bookseller Inventory # 004907

About this title

A jarring, fragmented ride through the dark underbelly of Edinburgh, the festival city. There is not an advocate, a festival performer or a fur coat in sight as, with bitter passion and rancid humour, Welsh lays bare the lives of this ill-starred bunch of addicts, alcoholics and no-hopers.

"Abhorrently dark and raw to the core, Trainspotting is an insight into one of life’s many ugly personalities ― addiction and the accompanying domino effect of grim inevitabilities... Irvine Welsh’s novel will always be a cult classic." (Tori Chalmers Culture Trip)

"Welsh’s skill as a storyteller is undeniable, bringing both wit and compassion to a grim subject matter. If you liked Danny Boyle’s film adaptation, you’ll love the original." (Maddy Searle i)
