Sickles (1825-1914) attended the University of the City of New York, was admitted to the bar in 1846, and married Theresa Bagioli in 1853. He was elected to Congress in 1857, but two years later on February 27, 1859, he shot and killed Philip Barton Key, the son of Francis Scott Key, for having an affair with his wife. He was acquitted, using for the first time, temporary insanity as a defense. Seller Inventory # 220397
