About this Item

Large 8vo. (23 cm.) 176p. Illustrated throughout with black and white drawings by Igor Rost, who also designed the book. Color pictorial wrappers with a vignette on the front cover in black, white and pink of a fireplace with a roasting spit and various culinary concoctions as a border around the cover. Bound with a white plastic comb. Just hints of wear to extremities, wrappers clean and bright, comb binding intact, else near fine to fine with no internal markings. "This Women's National Press Club Cook Book is not so much a defense of the culinary talents of newspaper women as it is a profit-making venture. We want a clubhouse of our own. With the help of this book, we expect to have a clubhouse sooner. 'Who Says We Can't Cook!' bears the trademark of our profession--a story accompanies each recipe. This joint journalistic venture, a cook book with more than 140 authors, reflects the kaleidoscopic personalities of our profession" [from the Foreword] The names of each newspaperwoman is attached to the recipe offered by her. Thus, one gets a comprehensive list of newspaperwomen around the U.S. in 1955. Bookseller Inventory # 008150
