Hardcover first edition - First US printing. An early and important work on this topic, originally published in French and then in the UK under the title "The Marvels of Glass-Making." Covers all aspects of glass making, including history, goblets and drinking glasses, telescopes, mirrors and looking glasses, windows, Venetian and German glass, filigree glass, frosted or colored glass and more (alphabetical table of contents is actually an index.) Illustrated with 63 engravings on wood. A title in the Illustrated Library of Wonders. 325 pp plus 9 pp of advertisements (including 'specimen illustrations' from other titles in the series.) Good condition overall in embossed red cloth with gilt decorations on the spine. From a college library with a bookplate on front pastedown, one stamp on front endpaper, no other markings - some soiling and wear to the covers, fraying to the ends of the spine; binding is sturdy and tight, contents are very clean. A reasonably attractive copy of a book which is uncommon in the first edition. Seller Inventory # 32431
