About this Item
Hardcover. Grey boards; black lettering & illustration on front board & spine; black and white illustrations and photographs throughout; glossy portrait of Edith Carew Roosevelt as a frontispiece. Hugo Ziemann was the then-steward of The White House. Contains many fascinating period recipes and facts of historical interest; adding a few drops of ether to a bottle oil was a common way of preventing it from going rancid, apparently! Also recipes for dyeing fabrics and keeping the kitchen clean. The boards are very faded and worn with age, and there is looseness in the spine, which is cracked on both front and back interiors. One of the pages is loose. The book was printed on common pages, which is somewhat fragile with age. No longer sturdy enough to stand up to regular kitchen use, but very readable and of great historical interest. Seller Inventory # ABE-1699824287743
