A nice copy of the first edition, first printing, part of the Britain in Pictures Series with 8 color plates and 29 black and white illustrations. A number of notable authors contributed to the text for this Series, including Darling for this volume, along with George Orwell, Wyndam Lewis, Graham Greene, Elizabeth Bowen, Rhys Davies, and Sean O'Faolain among many others. Text is tight and clean. Appears unread or barely so. Lettering and decorations to front board and spine are very bright and unflaked. In a Near Fine bright dust jacket w/two small closed tears to rear panel top edge, light toning to spine, very light wear to spine ends and corners. Previous owners' gift inscription, place and date (London, 1944) to front endpaper. No remainder mark or spray. Not Price Clipped (not priced). Not ex-lib. Not a Book Club Edition.
