When Senorita Beker arrived in Ottawa, completing her ride which she had made to beat the late A.F. Tschiffely's previous record of 10,000 miles on horse back, The Observer wrote, "We wish her success with the book she should write about her remarkable journey. Senorita Becker has now written the story of her adventures after she set out from Buenos Aires to better Tschiffely's great, earlier feat. She traveled out of Argentine, through the Bolivian mountains where she got lost for two months in a maze of rivers, and into Peru. On again through Ecuador to Columbia, where she was involved in political disturbances, and then later she had to take her horses by sea - starting out in a smuggler's boat - to Panama. Between Costa Rica and Guatemala - a terrain infested with wild animals and snakes, and in which she had often to hack her way through dense vegetation with a machete - she was chased by bandits. In Mexico more bandits stole her money, camera and pistol, but she was refunded by the authorities, and nothing daunted, she rode on through Texas and New York to Ottawa. Over a period of three years and eight months she covered about 17,000 miles and her narrative of this great journey will appeal to all who appreciate the spirit of adventure.
