In Hebrew. 256 x 200 x 80 mm. 10 x 8 x 3 inches. 1,195 pages. Probably a 16th century north European binding, possibly Dutch. All edges gilt, gauffered (goffered / gauffred). Albertus Isindorf's name appears on the gilt edge. Old leather binding in good condition. Pastedown page has ink inscription: ALBERTUS ISINDORFF. Praecons: et Scholarissa donavit. OCLC: Number of libraries worldwide that own item: 1. There is old Latin marginalia in the first 25 pages in a very neat hand. Large Froben device on title, another one smaller at the end. Book headings within fine woodcut frames; three sectional, divisional, half titles. Opening words surrounded by decorative floral and historiated borders. Text in Hebrew, square types pointed (with Nikud, vowelization), with cantilations. The first complete Hebrew Bible edited by the Christian scholar Sebastian Muenster, the eminent German Hebraist, geographer, and mathematician. The text, based mainly on the first Biblia Rabbinica, was printed in a Hebrew Latin edition at Basel in 1534, 1535, and "exercised considerable influence on versions made by the Reformers, e.g. in Switzerland, and on the English translation known as 'the Great Bible'."
