Antique emblem print, page 518, captioned: Recte de gloria indicat qui eam ex alto despicit (The glory of the righteous shall be judged from above). It shows: a crown suspended over a pond, and its reflection in the water. It signifies how Saint Aloysius (Gonzaga) who was destined to become a marquis, gave up his claim to nobility and joined the Society of Jesus. This emblem is set within an ornamental border. Copperplate engraving and text on verge type hand laid paper. Text front and rear. Description: This rare authentic old antique print / plate originates from: 'Afbeeldinghe van d'eerste eeuwe der Societeyt Iesu voor ooghen ghestelt door de Duyts-Nederlantsche Provincie der selver Societeyt.' (transl.: Images of the first century of Jesuits presented by the German-Netherlands Province of said Society.), by Jean Bollandus ao., published by Plantijn/Plantin, Antwerp, 1640. This work was translated by Laurentius Uwens from the latin ed., published in the same year: 'Imago primi saeculi societatis Iesu .' The famous centennial publication of the Low Countries Jesuits, containing beautiful emblematic engravings.Artists and Engravers: Authors: Johannes Bolland (1596-1665), Jean de Tollenaere (1582-1643), Sidronius de Hossche (1596-1653), Jacques van de Walle (1599-1690), Philip Fruytiers (1610-1666).
