Antique print, untitled. Two beehives, a member of the Order of the Brothers of the Sword. On the rear two deer and an elk. Woodcut on hand laid paper. Description: Sebastian Munster's 'Cosmographia, Beschreibung aller Lender'. These prints are from the 1592 German edition, published in Basel by Henrichum Petri (Heinrich Petri). Artists and Engravers: The author of this work is Sebastian Munster, a German cartographer, cosmographer and Christian scholar. He is best known for Cosmographia, the earliest German description of the world (in 6 parts. He was also the author of Horologiographia, Organum Uranicum and Rudimenta Mathematica. The woodcuts in this publication were made by a group of artists, among which Hans Holbein, Conrad Schnitt, David Kandel and Hans Rudolf Manuel Deutsch. Condition: Good, given age. Ghosting from text on the rear. A small stain in the lower left corner. Stains in the left margin. A small stain in the middle of the elk image.
