About this Item
A fantastic example of Harold Hope Read's narrative commentary on British society, as seen in his 'High Life' series. In this piece Hope Read has created intertwining stories between his characters in this scene of nightlife in early 20th century Britain. The artist has expertly created a juxtaposition between the two central characters - the woman is painted in bright hues and looks adoringly at a baby in its mother's arms. Her companion is a tall, slightly sinister figure painted in greys, who looks down on her with a suggestive gaze. The artist has used areas of watercolour wash in the composition. The painting is well presented in a cream card mount and modern gold frame. Unsigned. On wove. Size: Large (30-60cm) Framed: Yes. Seller Inventory # kj413
