The reader thus participates in the deaf experience, where "speaking" is tactile and visual, rather than oral. An otherwise somewhat elusive publication, with a title page at one side announcing Happy New Year in English, German, and French, and a colophon at the other showing a photograph of Mirjam van der Kwast, "receptioniste/telephoniste."
