Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Early three-quarter calf and marbled boards. 8vo. 305pp. Portrait. First Union edition of this biography "reprinted from advance sheets of the Richmond edition" of the same year. The author "was an ardent secessionist and served through the entire war, surrendering with Lee at Appomattox. In the intervals of campaigning, Cooke wrote a Life of Stonewall Jackson" (Dictionary of American Biography). A good copy with some heavy scuffing to the sides of the leather spine. The front cover hinge is worn but secure. There is an 1864 ink owner's name at the top of the title page else the text is very good with some light spotting to a few page margins. The engraved frontispiece portrait has some foxing on both sides.
