Book
Hardcover. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. Revised Edition. Upper grade school (5th - 8th grade) textbook of the late 19th century, data circa 1885. The world population at that point was estimated to be just under 1.5 billion people as opposed to just over 8.1 billion in 2024. World maps and country descriptions with majority of information about U.S.A. and it's territories (41/96 pages.) Information compiled before Spanish/American war. The book is printed as the Missouri Edition. Names of two students written in front of book, indicated book used in a Hannibal Missouri school. Folio sized book has paper covered boards with cloth spine. The spine has worn through, and rear cover has been lost. Interior appears complete with last page, 96, ending with the last vocabulary word being "Zealand." Pages show handling, age browning, and poor storage with upper page edges fanned. Tape repair of spine keeps binding complete and book usable. Color maps throughout are better than good, page edge reinforcement and tear repairs should be performed. ? Size: Folio ? over 12 - 15? tall, 96pp. ? Condition: Poor Hardcover, no Dust Jacket. Likely Always Privately owned copy, handled by children. Missing rear board, taped repair of spine. Copyrighted 1881, 1877, & 1870. The 1881 copyright held by this publisher and the earlier copyrights by Wilson, Hinkle & Co. However, the sources cited in World Population data states they used data from censuses up to 1885. This makes our copy at least from the revised 3rd edition. No information about print-run of the book found. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR printed in book. Prior Owner Name No Value.

"This volume is the second of the Eclectic Series of Geographies. It is complete in itself, though designed to precede, in a course of study, the use of the third and larger work. The authors have endeavored to treat the subject in as brief and concise a manner as possible, and yet to preserve that clearness and fullness of statement so desirable, and even indispensable, in a text-book for young pupils. To secure this end, they have limited themselves to statements of the essential facts and principles of the science, excluding all unimportant details and avoiding all lengthy descriptions." ---- from the Preface Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall.
