One of approximately 300 copies which at this period in time listed Robert Silverberg as its President; James Blish as Vice-President and Roger Zelazny as Secretary-Treasurer. Condition: Very good. - A 3 inch high by 5-3/4 inch wide clipped letterhead from The Red Book Magazine's stationery with the periodical name and address with Balmer's name as editor embossed in blue at the top. Signed with his sentiments "With Best Wishes / Edwin Balmer" in black ink. The inscription and signature are very slightly smudged. Remnants of clear mounting tape adhere to the sides of the verso. Very good. The American science fiction & mystery writer Edwin Balmer (1883-1959) began his career as a reporter for the Chicago Tribune before writing his first book. He co-authored "When Worlds Collide" and "After Worlds Collide" with Philip Wylie. The first of these novels was made into the 1951 award-winning movie directed by George Pal. Working with the artist Marvin Bradley, Balmer helped create the comic strip "Speed Spaulding" which was partially based on his novels. Balmer co-authored the short story collection "The Achievements of Luther Trant", and wrote several detective novels. An editor of Redbook from 1927 through 1949, he subsequently became associate publisher of the magazine and encouraged young writers by commissioning them to flesh out the strong story lines he was known to invent for publication in the periodical. A scarce autograph.
