Sontuoso frontespizio figurato con la resunta immagine di Beatrice Cenci disegnato dal Cellini ed inciso da Calzone. Eleganti fregi tipografici istoriati n.t. del Cellini, illustrazioni n.t. e f.t., tra cui una tavola in fotoincisione riproducente un busto di Shelley. Ottimo esemplare in barbe e impresso su bella carta forte. Numero doppio monografico della storica rivista fondata e diretta da Adolfo De Bosis. Contiene, monograficamente, la traduzione di De Bosis de I Cenci di Shelley, seguita da un saggio su tale tragedia del traduttore stesso e da delle Note sulla famiglia Cenci di Arturo Vecchini. La traduzione è dedicata a Eleonora Duse. La rivista, pubblicata da De Bosis a proprie spese, fu il tipico frutto dell'estetismo decandente fin de siècle (con echi ancora palpabili del gusto preraffaellita) e adunò alcuni dei maggiori nomi delle lettere italiane del tempo, D'Annunzio in testa a tutti. Una sorta di positivismo da superuomo, mescolato di spirito libertario e al tempo stesso imperialista, antipacifista, anima e arricchisce i bellissimi fascicoli, dai fregi alessandrini e dai grandi margini. è questo il momento più singolare del nostro decadentismo. è nel Convito che si riconosce il grado artistico del parnassianesimo italiano (Giorgio Petrocchi). All'occhiello dedica autografa di Adolfo de Bosis. "La rivista "Il Convito" esce a Roma nel gennaio del 1895 come rivista periodica a carattere letterario-artistico. Viene fondata da Alfonso De Bosis, colto uomo d'affari oltre che poeta shelleyano e umanitario, da Gabriele D'Annunzio e da Angelo Conti, critico d'arte oltre che saggista e pubblica dodici numeri su preziosa carta a mano, in una lussuosa veste tipografica ad intervalli irregolari, dal 1895 al 1907. In realtà il periodico vive come rivista solamente per i primi nove numeri, dal gennaio 1895 al dicembre 1896, perché i fascicoli successivi, contenendo solamente scritti del De Bosis, devono essere considerati a sé. Ai primi nove numeri collaborano autori di impronta estetizzante della nuova e vecchia generazione, come Edoardo Scarfoglio, Enrico Nencioni, Enrico Pancrazi, Giovanni Pascoli e artisti che, nelle illustrazioni, optano per figure enigmatiche, visioni allegorizzanti, serpentine figure di donne-meduse dando così alla rivista una chiara qualificazione, quella di rivista programmatica del decadentismo italiano. Dal Proemio, pubblicato nel gennaio del 1895, veniva presentato il quadro sociologico di una società corrotta dall'industrialismo borghese che era penetrato nelle mani della politica e contro questa Italia affarista e sporca, il gruppo elitario e nietzschiano degli artisti impegnati nel Convito, lanciano un proclama che esalta il potere indistruttibile della Bellezza. Il Proemio, pur non essendo firmato, risulta essere stato scritto dal D'Annunzio stesso per il riscontro di temi e stili che gli appartengono e vuole essere chiaramente il manifesto della nuova rivista" (da wikipedia). 1250 gr.
