[Excerpt from Presidents Message] The Fiftieth Annual Exhibition brings to the California National Water Color Society twenty-six new members from throughout the nation, eight of whom are prize-winners. To them I offer heartiest congratulations and a warm welcome to this Society. To those whose paintings were not accepted, I give sincere encouragement and true understanding. One need not be disheartened by not being accepted into this show, as there were many fine entries. To have a show of this caliber, representing the finest watercolorists in the nation, you must have a jury who have within them the tools and the knowledge to be watercolorists. After hours of looking at the overpowering colors and shapes and styles of the watercolors. not once or twice, but three, four and five times, they begin to eliminate and very slowly a show begins to come into being. The first phase of putting a show together has been reached. Next comes the task of finding the paintings which will comprise the award winners for this event. And again many hours are spent in deliberation of the qualities of the superior application of the medium we call watercolor. When this is completed, we have what you are seeing now, the Fiftieth Annual Exhibition of the California National Water Color Society.
