First Edition
Cannon, Walter B. (1871-1945) and Moser, Albert. The movements of the food in the oesophagus. Offprint from Am . J. Physiology 1 (1898). 435-444pp. 243 x 172 mm. Original printed wrappers, small chip in upper corner of front wrapper, minor wear. First Edition, offprint issue. Cannon was the first to use x rays to study the digestive system; his work laid the foundations of gastrointestinal radiology. The present paper, written while Cannon was still a medical student, describes Cannon's first experiments with x-rays to examine the mechanism of swallowing, including the first public demonstration, by means of x-rays, of the phenomena of deglutition. This ground-breaking work was undertaken less than a year after Roentgen's discovery of the x-ray. DSB. 39382.
