Good, soiling to the covers and sppine gilt rubbed; staining to the outer margins of the text starting abpout halfway through and increasing to the final leaf. Collection of pieces regarding the blind, Amost prominently an autobiographical account of a young woman who comes to America with her family in the first half o the 19th century; they set up a rooming house in Pittsburgh but upon the death of her father, she and her mother remove to Baltimore and then to Jersey City. An affliction causes her to lose her sight and the family moves to New York; her mother dies of comsumption and she winds up at institutions for the blind in upstate New York. She is also injured in a train wreck (scalded hands) and suffs a bout of paralysis.
