John Esteven is one of the pseudonyms used by the prolific writer Samuel Shellabarger [1888-1954], who also wrote under the name of Peter Loring. Bornin Washington, DC in 1888, Shellabarger was educated at Princeton and Harvard (Ph.D.) and taught English literature at Princeton, 1919-1923, until heresigned to devote full time to writing. VOODOO is his second novel writtenunder the name John Esteven and features the hero of this mystery/crime series, Rae Norse. His greatest success came somehwat late in four novels published after the war, beginning with CAPTAIN FROM CASTILLE in 1945.
