First edition. Single issue of this nicely printed quarterly devoted mainly to paper and bookplates. This publication edited by H. Alfred Fowler existed under several different titles starting in 1911 asThe Book-Plate Booklet,thenThe Ex Libran, The Biblio, The Bookplate,andThe Miscellany,which ran from 1914-1916 in a total of 12 issues. This particular volume quite important in that it contains a very early essay, "Ancient Papermaking" by Dard Hunter, one of his first published scholarly articles on the subject. Bibliography of Bookplate Literature pg. 76. 19x13cm, [5], 57-70, [5]pp including printed inner wrappers. Advertisements, illustrations. Stab sewn printed wrappers in blue and black, yapped edges. A touch of soiling and toning else nearly fine.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Twelve issues, complete, bound in blue buckram, with "THE MISCELLANY / Vols. 1 - 3 / 1914-16" in gilt on spine. Boards have edge wear, mostly at hinges and spine ends, corners bumped and worn, though not worn through. Internally, some toning and staining on page edges, does not impact any text or images. "Specimen Imperfect" stamp on blank at beginning of Vol. 1, Issue 1, though imperfection is not discernible. Good, solid original copy of this bookplate-focused journal. All of our books are individually inspected and described. Never ex-library unless explicitly described as such.
