An address delivered by Stewart, President of the Gloucester County Historical Society, at the North Woodbury Presbyterian Grave Yard at the dedication of a memorial stone in January, 1921. Franklin Davenport (1755-1832) was a nephew of Benjamin Franklin. He was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1776. During the War for independence, he enlisted as a private in the New Jersey militia, eventually rising to the rank major general. He also served as a line officer during the 1794 Whiskey Rebellion, served in the State Assembly and as a U.S. Senator for the Federalists for a short time in 1798-99.
