Hard Cover. Condition: Very Good-. No Jacket. Later Printing. Sadliers' Popular Library: Full-bound brown cloth, ornate embossings with black and gilt decorations and accents, 364pp, minor wear and bumping at extremities with a tad bit of rub-through at corners, several tiny tears in the cloth at spine ends, mild uneven fading to front board, a one inch horizontal rub rear board, mild bleaching lower rear corner, Bendictine Sisters Award Bookplate front paste-down, previous owner name/address penciled on front-free endpaper, front gutter is cracked, pages are tanned but fairly supple, upper tip of page 29 chipped, tight, square, clean. Written in 1855, this collection of stories was warmly received and Brownson's Quarterly commented "nice observation, deep feeling, happy descriptive powers and now and then something of the witchery of romance.".

Full leather with a red and gilt spine label, 4 raised bands, front and rear joints partially cracked but still quite sound, head of spine, corners and covers lightly rubbed, an occasional stain or handling mark internally.
